Topic: Geopolymer reinforced with crop residues
Short information: The presented work has been focused on utilization of crop residues in the production of composite materials. The physical and mechanical properties of geopolymer composites based on metakaolin and reinforced with triticale lemmas and awns were investigated. Composites with solid and porous structure were formed. The amount of reinforcement additives was 0.5, 5, and 15 vol.%. Not modified geopolymer was used as a reference material.
Based on the results, it was found that additives in form of the triticale awns are more homogeneously distributed in the geopolymer structure than triticale lemmas. Moreover, the composites reinforced with triticale awns were characterized by lower absorption of moisture. Three-point flexural testing demonstrated improved mechanical properties of the composite material reinforced with triticale awns.
